Periodontics

Gums are the secret to keeping smiles healthy and beautiful. Still, many people ignore the importance of gum health. Typically, gums receive less care than our teeth do, which is one of the top reasons why gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults. Dr. Z of Pristine Smiles offers periodontal therapy to keep gums strong and looking their best.

Why is early intervention necessary?

When gum disease emerges, it typically doesn’t hurt—which is why it often goes unnoticed until it’s advanced. The problem with this is that treatment is not as simple when it advances past gingivitis. Gingivitis, the earliest stage of gum disease, is reversible through deep dental cleaning. But, as gum disease advances, the symptoms worsen and become more complex, making it increasingly challenging to treat

Our Quality Periodontal Services

When an individual comes in with a gum issue, Dr. Z performs a periodontal screening to evaluate gum health. During the periodontal exam, Dr. Z measures the depths of the gingival pockets and looks for signs of plaque and tartar buildup. Also, she will look for changes in gum shade and note medical history.

After gathering this information, she creates customized dental hygiene and periodontal plans for patients who need them. Some periodontal services that we offer at Pristine Smiles include:

  •         Scaling and root planing is deep dental cleaning. Dr. Z uses specialized tools to perform this task and carefully removes caked-on bacteria, plaque, and tartar from and below dental surfaces.
  •         Periodontal laser therapy works in conjunction with other therapies and is generally not a standalone cure. Dr. Z uses laser light to access and remove inflamed gum tissue, tartar, and plaque along the gumline during laser therapy. Also, she can smooth away rough spots on the tooth to help prevent reinfection.
  •         Gingivectomy (esthetic crown lengthening) is for patients unsatisfied with their gums’ shape. If you’re guilty of having gums that overlap the teeth, making them appear imbalanced or tiny, a gingivectomy can fix this. Also, Dr. Z might use this technique to remove gum tissue to access a tooth blocked by gums.
